Skill sharing internships
SURCO offers long-term internships for people who have specific skills that can benefit local grassroots organizations. Some examples include people with experience in communications (web design, video production, photography, design of brochures/educational materials, translation, grant writing), education, and appropriate alternative technologies (rainwater harvesting, urban agriculture, passive solar, etc.), but internships are not limited to those areas.
- Spanish language skills
- A minimum commitment of 3-6 months is required for most internships
- Participation in a two-week intensive orientation prior to starting the internship. The orientation provides interns with the cultural, economic, political, historical contexts for Oaxaca, as well as background on local organizations and their work in Oaxaca. The orientation is provided by SURCO staff, leaders of local grassroots organizations, academics, activists and campesino/as. The orientation is designed to help provide our partner organizations with interns who have a strong grasp of key issues and dynamics related to Oaxacan realities-viewing the topics through local and international lenses.
